Rough Cricket
Rough Cricket starts its 5th year in May 2010. Once again someone will be at each of the announced locations with the simplest rudiments of equipment for a backyard game of cricket – four stumps, a bat and a ball – and then anyone can join in with what is usually a single wicket game. Eight players is ideal. Passers by can join in for as long as they like. No personal equipment is required. Sometimes there is a picnic. People who want to play regularly will be sent a reminder text before each game. Decisions about hard or practice balls made on site.
In 2009 14 games were played in 8 different locations – mainly in Southwark. 23 regular players made 94 playing appearances and 11 casual players joined in. A tournament raised £150 for Afghan cricket
