1st Framework

1st Framework Productions was set up by Peter Avery and Maxine Webster in 1982 with the remit to facilitate projects which fall outside the normal funding criteria of grant-awarding bodies or sponsors. The majority of their work involves creating projects, largely drama-based, with the over sixties.

They are renonwed for encouraging maverick projects that are cross-art form, inter-generational or performed in unconventional surroundings, staged by a rich variety of arts practitioners.

They apply an "empty studio" policy to a project-by-project operation with new teams, spaces and schedules each time.

Their approach to work with older people is radical and ambitious and avoids being solely reminscence-based and they deliver a year round education programme to people of all ages, needs and abilities.

maverick projects include:

1989 - Stories, Dublin. Won, European Year of Lifelong learning 1st Prize for the The Mary Ward over sixties drama group

1993 - The Tree of Life, The Earth Summit Conference Rio de Janeiro. A 10 metre high interactive sculpture

1996 - Document, New British Library. Digital Video installation with artist Simon Biggs
